8 Makeup Mistakes That Make You Look Older
Most of us spend hundreds to thousands of dollars a year on the quest for youthful skin. Ironically, no matter how much you spend on botox, serums, and moisturizers, you may still be making a few crucial mistakes in your beauty routine that make you look older (yikes).
Keep reading for eight mistakes that you could be making that make you look older than you are.
You aren’t using enough moisturizer
If you aren’t using moisturizer at all or using enough of it, your skin is missing out on a ton of hydration that it needs to look youthful and glowing. Moisturizer helps fight wrinkles and helps balance your skin’s complexion,
You are using too much foundation
Using too much foundation is often counterproductive. It can end up making you look caked and can highlight your fine lines or trouble areas instead of covering them. Opt for a thinner layer of foundation or tinted moisturizer and apply concealer on red spots, blemishes, and under the eyes.
You are using the wrong shade of concealer
Using the right shade of concealer is so essential to attaining a more youthful appearance. Using a shade that is too light for your complexion can make you look ghostly and washed out. Or using a concealer that is too dark for your complexion can also drag your features as well. The key is to choose a full coverage concealer that is one shade lighter than your face. When in doubt, go to a beauty counter or beauty stores like Sephora or Ulta for a free consultation.
You drag your skin downward when applying products
When applying makeup or products to your skin, you never want to apply your product while pulling your skin in a downward motion. We all have a natural tendency to do this. Although pulling downwards won’t immediately cause wrinkles or the collagen’s breakdown in your skin, it still affects your skin’s appearance. Opt for patting or dabbing products and makeup.
You use shimmer eyeshadow on your entire lid
Using shimmering eye shadow all over the lids is one of the easiest ways to age you. Luckily, it is also one of the quickest fixes. Instead of using shimmer eyeshadow all over the eyelid, stick to matte eyeshadows. I recommend using more pigmented colors like warm browns in your eyelids crease to create depth and brighten your eyes.
You don’t wash your makeup brushes
Wash your makeup brushes frequently to avoid the build-up of products and bacteria. Using dirty brushes when applying makeup can make your makeup application look old and dirty.
You are drawing your eyebrows too thin
To ensure a more youthful appearance, line and fill in your eyebrows fully. Avoid drawing on your eyebrows or filling them in too little, as this makes your eyes look smaller and are usually a dead giveaway of age.
You aren’t using a lash curler
If you aren’t using an eyelash curler, you miss out on the ability to lengthen your eyelashes and open your eyes.
