Should You Enroll in an Online or an In-Person Makeup School? What’s the Difference?

by Jenny

If you want to build a career as a makeup artist, investing in your education and professional training is the first and most essential step to move forward. Not only will you learn the fundamentals of makeup application and industry trades, but being trained by state board-licensed instructors will get you a qualified certification.

Having a Makeup Artist Certification will increase your chances of being hired. It instantly increases your credibility as a professional and establishes yourself as a makeup artist. However, the only way to attain certification is by taking a course from a reputable makeup school or beauty instructor.

As a licensed educator and professional makeup artist, I’ve had experiences as both a teacher and a student in the industry. So, I’ll share some of my insights and walk you through the options available to help you take the next step in your journey towards becoming part of the makeup artist community.

Makeup School Options

There are two primary learning choices:

1) through a traditional studio setup or 2) through an online class.

Online classes are usually offered to provide flexibility. Aspiring makeup artists who may have a hard time attending lessons at a studio may opt to go online. Not to mention, there’s an ongoing pandemic that still needs to be taken into consideration.

Nonetheless, some advantages and disadvantages come with each type of makeup school option. To make things easier for you, I created a table with the pros and cons of online makeup courses vs. in-person classes to determine which one is more suitable for your current needs and circumstances.

Online Versus In-Person Makeup Course

Either way, the crucial part is selecting a reputable academy to be sure that you will acquire the skills, techniques, and standards needed to succeed in this increasingly competitive industry. I recommend choosing one that will provide you with guidance not only in makeup application but also in building your own name as a professional makeup artist.

Soon, I’ll be launching the JTorry Makeup Academy Online Experience, which is a modified online version of my long-standing in-person school. I’m so thrilled to share with you more details through our newsletter, so sign up through this link. I can guarantee you will not regret taking advantage of this life-changing opportunity.
